One of the UK's leading wildlife artists, Colin Woolf uses pure watercolour to create beautiful, lifelike images of the natural world. Hallmarks of his work are delicate plumage, rich landscapes and dramatic skies.
Colin's favourite subjects include golden eagles, red kites, peregrines, barn owls, partridge, snipe and woodcock. A keen naturalist, he's drawn towards the wilder, more remote areas of Britain - places haunted only by birds of prey, red and black grouse, wildfowl and waders. Among the mammals he draws and paints most frequently are red deer, roe deer and otters.
Having mastered the specialist skill of painting with a woodcock's pin-feather, Colin is the only wildlife artist to use this technique to create paintings of woodcock.
The painting shown here is Colin's latest feather painting of the first Woodcock of the winter.
